The place
Scrivelsby Walled Garden
A hidden tipi garden on the Scrivelsby Estate, two miles south of Horncastle on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Exclusive, a bit wild, and older than it first looks.

Why here
Lincolnshire is a long way from a rush. The Wolds roll, Horncastle still has a proper market town feeling, and Woodhall Spa is the Edwardian neighbour with a cinema in the woods. It’s the sort of county you come to stay in, not dash through.
The estate itself has been home to the Dymoke family since the 1300s. The lord of the manor of Scrivelsby is the hereditary King’s Champion: at coronations they once rode into Westminster Hall in armour and threw down a gauntlet to anyone who doubted the new monarch. Francis Dymoke carried the Royal Standard at King Charles III’s coronation. The old court burned in 1761; the Lion Gate from around 1530 is still there, and St Benedict’s church is a short walk through the park.

Travel
There is no station in the field
Train
Nearest useful stations: Lincoln Central (then taxi or car, typically 35–50 minutes) or Metheringham (smaller, then a taxi towards Horncastle). London is LNER into Lincoln. Book the last hop. Horncastle itself has no railway.
Bus
The InterConnect / service 56 runs between Lincoln and Horncastle (and on to Skegness). From Horncastle you’ll still want a taxi for the last couple of miles to Scrivelsby. Check current times nearer the day.
Plane
East Midlands (EMA) is the usual airport, then train or car via Nottingham/Lincoln. Humberside (HUY) is closer on the map but has fewer flights. Either way, treat the last hour as a car or pre-booked taxi.
Taxi
Pre-book. A local firm covering Metheringham, Lincoln and Horncastle is Out & About Taxis, 01526 323316. Don’t assume one will be waiting at Lincoln late at night in May.
Car & parking
From Lincoln take the A158 towards Skegness, then local roads south to Scrivelsby (B1183 / A153 depending on your satnav). Free parking in the field by the entrance. Coaches can fit. If it’s been raining, wellies are not a joke.
From London
About 120 miles. Train to Lincoln Central, then a booked car. Driving is the A1 then across via Newark or the A17/A153. Leave more time than Google first suggests.

No room block is confirmed yet. Treat this as a starting map, not a booking list. Discounts: none arranged so far.
On the field
The venue has an adjacent camping / glamping field. Bring your own tent, or ask us about limited glamping (deposit, numbers capped). Showers for campers. This is the “stay for breakfast in a field” option.
Hotels
Horncastle: the Admiral Rodney is the known local inn. Lincoln has far more beds if you don’t mind a 40-minute hop. We’ll add anything we actually hold.
Not a hotel
Airbnbs and cottages around Horncastle, Woodhall Spa and the Wolds. Lion Gate Lodge sits at the estate entrance and is a restored lodge, not a general B&B; don’t assume it’s bookable.

If you’re coming all this way
Lincoln
Cathedral, castle, Steep Hill. A proper city in miniature. Good for the night before if you want pavements.
The Wolds
An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Quiet lanes, big skies, the Viking Way. This is why the county feels different.
Tattershall Castle
National Trust, a 15th-century red-brick tower on the fens. Climb it if your legs still work after the wedding.
Horncastle
Antiques, a Saturday market, and the start of the Spa Trail. The nearest town for milk, pints and a wander.
Woodhall Spa
Edwardian resort energy, the Kinema in the Woods (a cinema actually in the pinewoods), and the Hotchkin golf course if that’s your religion.
Zoos & wildlife
Wolds Wildlife Park is on Louth Road, Horncastle. Woodside Wildlife Park is a bit further for a proper zoo day.
